A big car means comfort, and a very big car means heightened comfort.
But it's essential to understand that maintaining such a vehicle (including fuel consumption) will be costly. Fortunately, even the modern models of the largest SUVs are designed so that the engine doesn't "devour" enormous amounts of gasoline. So, in Cyprus, it's entirely possible to own a luxurious off-road vehicle with an elevated comfort level.
Here's a selection of the 10 largest SUVs and a brief overview of each model.
1. Lincoln Navigator, length 5.6 m
This Lincoln model has already become a classic. The first model was released in 1997, and since then, it has undergone some modifications, transforming it into a more modern and comfortable vehicle. The Lincoln Navigator has three rows of seats, making it perfect for large families constantly on the move.
The interior boasts excellent elevated comfort-level finishes, presented in different variations across different generations. New models are equipped with climate and cruise control, parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, and heated seats. Despite its size, the Lincoln Navigator is easy and undemanding to drive, even for inexperienced drivers.
Technical specifications of this giant:
- engine power - 456 hp;
- engine type - V6;
- drive - rear or all-wheel drive;
- 10-speed automatic transmission;
- fuel consumption: city - 14.7 L, highway - 10.7 L;
- weight - up to 2855 kg.
Despite all the advantages, this car has a significant downside - it can be challenging to find spare parts for it. Additionally, overall repairs for this "monster," rare for Cyprus, can cost a significant amount.
2. Toyota Tundra, length 5.8 m
The large size of this pickup truck is due to its truly enormous open cargo bed, which can be 1980 mm or 2470 mm. This is very convenient for those dealing with oversized items or a large volume of cargo. In Europe and the United States, the Toyota Tundra is highly popular among farmers.
Meanwhile, the vehicle features excellent internal finishes with elevated comfort. It's easy to travel long distances in it, comfortably accommodating up to 5 people (including the driver) in the cabin. The latest models are equipped with modern electronics, and currently, a diesel-electric hybrid system is being developed, which is quite challenging for such a giant.
Technical specifications of the latest model:
- engine type - 5.7-liter V8;
- engine power - 381 hp;
- drive - rear or all-wheel drive;
- fuel consumption: city - up to 18.1 L, highway - from 13.1 L;
- weight - 2551 kg.
This car is very practical, but its drawbacks include high fuel consumption and not very high maneuverability. The Toyota Tundra is clearly more suited for rural than urban trips.
3. Ford Excursion, length 5.78 m
Remarkably, this car appears in various global SUV rankings as one of the longest, fastest in its category, and the heaviest on the planet. Its weight reaches 3300 kg in some models.
The impressive length and impressive mass don't hinder the Ford Excursion from being quite maneuverable. Additionally, the car has a very spacious cabin with excellent finishes, accommodating 3 rows of seats. The cargo volume can reach 4100 L.
Key features of the latest models:
- engine - Expedition V6 with turbocharging;
- engine power - up to 400 hp;
- fuel consumption - from 14 to 21.6 L;
- 5-speed automatic transmission.
Among the drawbacks are the difficulty in finding spare parts and, consequently, the high cost of maintenance and repair.
4. Chevrolet Suburban, length 5.65 m
Like the Lincoln Navigator, this full-size SUV has been around for a long time. To date, there are eleven generations! And each new generation has received significant improvements: in technical characteristics, safety, driver and passenger comfort.
Chevrolet Suburban stands out for its smooth ride and good maneuverability for its weight. Many describe the driving experience as "like sailing on a large liner." Moreover, the latest models have a very impressive design, which will appeal to those who appreciate not only the "filling" but also the "packaging."
The technical specifications of this beauty of the 11th generation are as follows:
- - Engine - Vortec V8;
- - Engine power - up to 985 hp;
- - 4 or 6-speed automatic transmission;
- - All-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive;
- - Additional row of seats - optional;
- - Weight - 2640 kg;
- - Fuel consumption - about 15 L.
Among the drawbacks, low ground clearance and relatively high fuel consumption are often noted. Although in terms of fuel consumption, Chevrolet Suburban is certainly not the record holder in our lineup.
5. Cadillac Escalade, length 5.7 m
"Cadillac" - that says it all. Luxury combines perfectly with power in the Escalade model, designed specifically for the most discerning car owners. Even the basic configuration impresses with thoughtfulness, comfort, and elegance. Not to mention the Premium Luxury and Platinum variants!
In the luxuriously finished cabin, there are three rows of seats, with the middle row divided into two seats. This allows for comfortable travel for 7 people, including the driver. It's worth noting the highest level of safety and good handling: the car handles corners beautifully.
Technical specifications of the latest Escalade models:
- Engine type - V8;
- Engine power - 420 hp;
- 10-speed automatic transmission;
- Weight - up to 2800 kg;
- Rear-wheel or all-wheel drive;
- Fuel consumption - from 11.2 to 18 L.
High fuel consumption and premium vehicle finishes make it expensive to maintain, but this is perhaps its only drawback.
6. Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, length 5.15 m
This car focuses not on massiveness but on lightness, smooth lines, and movements. Relatively small dimensions, maneuverability, and a presentable appearance allow this SUV to be used for regular trips around the city. So it's not necessary to "walk" this beauty in nature.
All four models (GL350 Bluetec, GL450, GL550, and GL 63 AMG) have modern electronics, unique 7-seat cabin finishes, and other pleasant details that make the car as comfortable as possible.
Technical specifications of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class for all classes:
- - Engine type - V6 with turbocharging;
- - Engine power - up to 577 hp;
- - Weight - up to 2585 kg;
- - Fuel consumption - from 7.4 to 13.8 L.
The relative lightness of the SUV allows it to achieve a record low fuel consumption. Although in the city, of course, the figures increase.
7. Nissan Patrol, 5.16 m
This SUV has become beloved by many drivers and has become one of the most popular among large vehicles. However, there's nothing surprising here: this model has been developed and supplemented for years, with the first generation released in 1951! Over time, both the appearance and the technical characteristics of the Nissan Patrol have changed significantly, but one thing remains unchanged: the power and large size.
8. Infiniti QX80, length 5.34 m
Infiniti cars have always been characterized by elegant and bold design. Grace combines with strength and demonstrates how fast the car can be. This was achieved even on the seemingly massive QX80, which is impressive in its size.
Today, mainly the sixth generation is seen on the roads, which was first released in 2010. Some changes to the appearance were made by the manufacturers in 2014, but they are minor.
The technical specifications of the latest models are as follows:
- - 5.6-liter V8 engine;
- - Engine power - up to 428 hp;
- - 7-speed automatic transmission;
- - All-wheel drive;
- - Weight - up to 2750 kg;
- - Fuel consumption - from 9.6 to 18.2 L.
Many drivers note the good maneuverability of the SUV, although for some "representatives" in our lineup, it may be even better.
The Infiniti QX80 was created based on the previous Nissan Patrol, although its body underwent significant changes externally. Interestingly, even the QX80 models of 2014 and 2018 differ significantly from each other visually. Many believe that the design update has benefited the SUV. It has become more in line with the luxury class to which it originally belonged.
The specifications of the latest QX80 models are as follows:
- - 5.6-liter V8 engine;
- - Engine power - 405 hp;
- - 7-speed automatic transmission;
- - Weight - 2785 kg;
- - Fuel consumption - 14.5 L.
Interestingly, despite its large mass and impressive payload capacity, the SUV consumes not so much fuel. Nevertheless, the consumption, by modern standards, is considered not the smallest.
9. Toyota Sequoia, 5.21 m
Purely externally, the old models of this SUV resemble a minibus. The Toyota Sequoia is indeed recognized as a worthy family car. It comfortably accommodates and covers a huge distance even for a large family.
The newest models (2022) look more neat but are still impressive. Toyota Sequoia is especially popular in the Middle East, the United States, and also in Russia.
Technical specifications of the new Toyota Sequoia:
- - 5.7-liter V8 engine;
- - Engine power - 381 hp;
- - 6-speed automatic transmission;
- - Weight - up to 2742 kg;
- - Fuel consumption - from 15.7 to 18.1 L.
Interestingly, first-generation models could consume up to 30 L per 100 km in the city, but this problem has been successfully solved in the latest models produced.
10. Nissan Armada, 5.31 m
Externally, this SUV looks very neat, although in size, it is massive. It's an excellent car for family trips. It has 3 rows of seats and plenty of space inside.
The 2022 model stands out for its greater power compared to its predecessors. However, technically (especially when it comes to electronics inside), it has been significantly improved. Moreover, in terms of comfort level in the cabin, it has noticeably "jumped up."
Technical specifications of the new Nissan Armada models:
- - Engine type - V8;
- - Engine power - up to 390 hp;
- - 7-speed automatic transmission;
- - Weight - up to 2641 kg;
- - Fuel consumption - on average 15.7 L.
A large SUV for Cyprus is an ideal solution if you have a large family or if you are used to frequently traveling outside the city. All the models listed above have a representative appearance, so they will appeal to many car owners.
