The new electric Mercedes-Benz CLA continues to earn prestigious international awards. After receiving the maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating and being named Best Performer in its segment, the vehicle has achieved another significant result, scoring 91% in the independent Green NCAP environmental assessment.
Experts highly praised the model’s energy efficiency, low environmental impact, and advanced electric technologies. This result confirms that the new CLA combines a high level of safety, an extensive driving range, and strong environmental performance.
Why Green NCAP Gave the CLA Such a High Score
The Green NCAP programme evaluates vehicles according to several key criteria:
- energy efficiency;
- greenhouse gas emissions;
- energy consumption;
- environmental impact throughout the vehicle’s entire life cycle, from production to operation.
According to the test results, the overall environmental footprint of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA was around 119 grams of CO2 equivalent per kilometre, one of the best figures among modern electric vehicles. This strong result was achieved thanks to several engineering solutions.
Which Technologies Helped Achieve Record Efficiency
One of the main advantages of the new CLA is its outstanding aerodynamics. Its drag coefficient is just 0.21 Cd, one of the best figures in its class, directly helping to reduce energy consumption and increase driving range.
The vehicle has also received a new generation of electric powertrain technology, including:
- an 800-volt architecture;
- a two-speed transmission;
- a more efficient energy management system.
This design improves the vehicle’s performance, increases efficiency at high speeds, and makes long-distance travel more economical. The fast-charging system also deserves particular attention. The electric vehicle supports direct-current charging at up to 320 kW. As a result, just 10 minutes of charging can add approximately 325 kilometres of driving range, significantly reducing stopping times during journeys.
Electric Vehicles Are Becoming Increasingly Popular
The new award coincides with an important anniversary for the German car manufacturer: 140 years since Karl Benz created the first patented automobile. Today, the company continues to actively develop electric vehicle technologies, digital control systems, safety features, and environmentally friendly transport.
Interest in electric vehicles is also growing across the European market. In many countries, including Cyprus, fast-charging networks continue to expand, while support programmes for environmentally friendly transport are making electric vehicle ownership increasingly convenient.
The high Green NCAP and Euro NCAP ratings confirm that modern electric vehicles are already capable of combining a high level of safety, long driving range, fast charging, and minimal environmental impact, making them a fully viable alternative to vehicles with internal combustion engines.
