Cyprus continues the implementation of the fourth stage of the state program to promote electromobility. Following the cancellation of a number of preliminary approvals for applicants who failed to meet the established deadlines, the Department of Road Transport has begun sending new preliminary approvals to candidates from the waiting list.
This concerns applicants who participated in the selection process under the fourth announcement of the program and were placed on the reserve list following the lottery. The vacated places appeared after some of the original subsidy recipients failed to meet the requirements set out in the official program guidelines.
Why preliminary approvals were canceled
As clarified by the Department of Road Transport, the deadline for uploading or submitting proof of a vehicle order for applicants who received preliminary approval on January 5, 2026, has already expired. This requirement is mandatory and applies equally to the purchase of both new and used electric vehicles.
As a result, preliminary approvals were annulled for those who did not place an order within the set time frame, did not submit proof of purchase, or failed to provide a complete set of required documents. The authorities emphasize that the rules are the same for all participants in the program and do not allow for individual extensions.
Who will receive new preliminary approvals
After the cancellation of applications, the Department begins activating applicants from the waiting list across a number of subsidy categories. New preliminary approvals will be sent to participants selected by lottery, within the available slots for each category. These applicants will receive personalized notifications indicating new deadlines within which they must confirm the vehicle order and submit all required documents.
The Department emphasizes that each subsidy category has its own conditions and time frames, which will be clearly specified in the preliminary approval notification. Failure to comply with these deadlines will result in the approval being canceled again.
What will happen next with the program
The Department of Road Transport reminds that the electric vehicle support program in Cyprus remains dynamic. If the new subsidy recipients also fail to complete the process within the established deadlines, preliminary approvals will be redistributed again to the next applicants on the waiting list, strictly in accordance with the order determined by the lottery.
Experts note that interest in electric vehicles in Cyprus continues to grow amid rising fuel prices, the expansion of the charging station network, and the pan-European course toward reducing CO2 emissions.
