BMW unveiled the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race, offering the first glimpse of the next generation of high-performance electric models from its M division.
The new concept is far more than a design study. It serves as a showcase for technologies that will appear in future BMW M production vehicles over the coming years. The German automaker aims to prove that the era of electric vehicles can be just as exciting as the age of traditional petrol-powered sports cars.
A New Design Language for BMW M
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse introduces a completely new design identity that appears more aggressive and performance-focused than the brand’s current models.
Wide wheel arches, dynamic body proportions, and expressive character lines emphasize the vehicle’s sporting nature. Engineers paid particular attention to aerodynamics, as airflow efficiency directly affects both performance and driving range in electric vehicles.
The front end features BMW’s characteristic “shark nose” design. The LED headlights and a reinterpreted version of the iconic kidney grille form a single illuminated element. For the first time in BMW M history, the concept uses M Yellow Lights, inspired by GT racing cars and the BMW M Hybrid V8 prototype that competes in endurance racing championships.
At the rear, new three-dimensional Track Lights are combined with a large diffuser and a ducktail-style spoiler designed to improve downforce at high speeds. Completing the look are the exclusive Monza Red exterior paint and centre-lock wheels finished in the signature red-and-blue BMW M colour scheme.
A Driver-Focused Interior
The concept’s interior is entirely focused on the driver and high-performance driving. The vehicle features four sports bucket seats with enhanced lateral support. The cabin combines Bathurst Blue and Berry Red accents, colours long associated with the BMW M division.
One of the more distinctive features is the use of black nubuck leather on the steering wheel, door panels, and elements of the safety cage. This approach combines premium comfort with the atmosphere of a dedicated racing car.

Four Electric Motors and a New “Super Brain”
The most significant innovation of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse lies beneath the bodywork. The concept is powered by the new BMW M eDrive system, which incorporates four electric motors. Each motor is controlled independently, allowing torque to be distributed between the wheels with exceptional precision.
The entire system is managed by a new computing platform called Heart of Joy. This high-performance computer continuously controls acceleration, braking, and vehicle dynamics in real time. BMW says the architecture delivers unprecedented steering precision, enhanced traction, and instant responsiveness to driver inputs.
More Than 100 kWh and Ultra-Fast Charging
The concept is built on a modern 800-volt architecture, a technology that is rapidly becoming the standard for premium electric vehicles. The high-voltage battery has a capacity exceeding 100 kWh, providing the foundation for both long driving range and ultra-fast charging capabilities.
The vehicle uses new sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells developed specifically for future BMW M electric models. According to industry experts, the Neue Klasse technologies will form the basis of the next generation of electric BMW vehicles, which are expected to begin reaching the market in the coming years.
For BMW, this project is strategically important. The company is actively preparing for the transition to the Neue Klasse platform, which will underpin the majority of its future vehicle lineup.
