New 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV: 150 km electric range and GR Sport version
The official premiere of the plug-in hybrid version of the new generation Toyota RAV4 took place in Japan. Toyota revealed the technical specifications, trim levels, and prices of the model for the domestic market. The updated crossover received an energy-efficient hybrid platform, an increased traction battery, and a significantly extended electric driving range.
The new model is aimed at drivers who want to combine performance, efficiency, and the ability to make daily trips without using gasoline. According to the manufacturer, the model has become more technologically advanced and more powerful compared to the previous version.
Powerful hybrid system and increased range
The Toyota RAV4 PHEV is based on the A25A-FXS plug-in hybrid powertrain built on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine. The combined system output reaches 242 kW or 329 horsepower, making the crossover one of the most powerful in the RAV4 lineup.
The main update concerns the electric range. The vehicle can now travel about 150 km without engaging the gasoline engine. For comparison, the previous version had a range of approximately 95 km. This increase makes the model more attractive for daily city commuting in fully electric mode.
The high-capacity battery is used not only as an energy source but also as an element that increases body rigidity. Thanks to this, the vehicle’s center of gravity is lowered and road stability is improved.
Z trim: sporty accents and modern design
The base version for the Japanese market is the Z trim. Its price is about 6 million yen, which at the current exchange rate is equivalent to approximately 3 million rubles.
This version features black decorative exterior accents that emphasize the sporty character of the model. Visually, the vehicle looks more dynamic while maintaining the recognizable features of the new RAV4 generation.
The trim is aimed at those who want maximum technology and power without excessive emphasis on sports suspension modifications.
GR Sport: improved handling and aerodynamics
For fans of a more driver-focused style, the GR Sport version is offered. Its price in Japan is about 6.3 million yen, which is equivalent to approximately 3.1 million rubles.
This modification received a revised suspension with GR Performance Dampers shock absorbers and GR Braces reinforcement struts. Such solutions increase vehicle stability and improve behavior at high speeds. Additionally, the model is equipped with front and rear spoilers, which positively affect aerodynamics.
Engineers also retuned the electric power steering. Two driving modes are available to the driver — Normal and Sport, allowing adaptation of vehicle behavior to different conditions and driving styles.
Production and sales plans
Mass production of the plug-in hybrid version will be established at the company’s Japanese plants in Takaoka and Nagakusa. Toyota expects to sell about 700 such crossovers monthly in the domestic market.
The premiere of the new Toyota RAV4 PHEV confirms the brand’s strategy to develop hybrid and electric technologies. Increased electric range, high power, and improved handling make the model competitive in the mid-size crossover segment.
Thus, the new RAV4 PHEV becomes an important stage in the evolution of the popular model, offering drivers a combination of environmental friendliness, performance, and modern engineering solutions.
