Volkswagen has officially unveiled the ID. Polo, the first fully electric version of one of the brand’s most popular models. Over more than 50 years on the global market, the Polo family has sold more than 20 million vehicles, and now the legendary hatchback is entering the electric era.
The new Volkswagen ID. Polo will become one of the German manufacturer’s most affordable electric cars. The company is focusing on a combination of competitive pricing, modern technology and a long driving range to make the electric vehicle attractive to the widest possible audience. The model is also expected to arrive on the Cyprus market in the near future, where interest in electric transport continues to grow thanks to the expansion of the charging network and government programmes supporting environmentally friendly mobility.
Modern Design and a Spacious Interior
The new model follows the brand’s Pure Positive design language, characterised by clean body lines, modern LED lighting and recognisable proportions. The designers managed to preserve the character of the classic Polo while giving the car a more dynamic and technologically advanced appearance.
The model is based on the new front-wheel-drive MEB+ electric platform. Thanks to the absence of a conventional internal combustion engine, engineers were able to significantly increase the amount of interior space.
The boot of the new ID. Polo offers:
- 441 litres in the standard configuration;
- 1,243 litres with the rear seats folded.
These figures make the car suitable both for daily city driving and longer journeys. The cabin is fully digital and designed around driver comfort. Its equipment includes:
- a 10-inch digital instrument panel;
- a 13-inch multimedia display;
- convenient physical buttons for controlling key functions;
- an original Retro Display inspired by the instrument panel of the first Volkswagen Golf, combining classic design with modern technology.
Up to 454 km on a Single Charge and New Technologies
Volkswagen has equipped the new ID. Polo with modern electronic driver-assistance systems and features that were previously available only in more expensive models.
Key technologies include:
- Connected Travel Assist with traffic-light recognition;
- One-Pedal Driving, allowing the driver to accelerate and slow down using almost a single pedal;
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), allowing the car to serve as a power source for external electrical devices with an output of up to 3.6 kW.
Three electric motor versions will be available at launch: 116 hp, 135 hp and 211 hp. In 2027, the range will be expanded with the sporty ID. Polo GTI, producing 226 hp. Buyers will be offered two battery options: 37 kWh, providing a range of up to 329 km, and 52 kWh, providing a range of up to 454 km. The batteries support DC fast charging at up to 90 kW and 105 kW respectively, significantly reducing charging times during long-distance journeys.

Volkswagen Strengthens Its Position in the Electric Vehicle Market
The launch of the ID. Polo forms part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to expand its range of affordable electric vehicles. The company is gradually moving its most popular models onto electric platforms as it seeks to strengthen its position in the European market amid growing competition from Chinese manufacturers.
The arrival of the ID. Polo could be particularly significant for Cyprus. Registrations of electric and hybrid vehicles continue to increase in the country, while the public charging network is expanding rapidly. Thanks to its compact dimensions, modern equipment and driving range of up to 454 km, the new Volkswagen ID. Polo has every chance of becoming one of the most popular electric city cars in the coming years.
