Volkswagen has officially lifted the veil on the interior of the new ID. Polo — a compact electric hatchback that will enter the European market in spring 2026 and become the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle. The model is the production continuation of the ID.2all concept presented in 2023 and will open a new chapter for Volkswagen in the urban EV segment.

The return of buttons and a design with history

One of the main surprises was Volkswagen’s decision to bring back physical buttons. After a wave of criticism aimed at touch controls, the brand drew conclusions and equipped the ID. Polo with full-fledged buttons on the steering wheel, center console, doors, and tunnel. This not only improves ease of use but also highlights the brand’s move toward a more “human-centered” interface.

In front of the driver is a standalone 10.25-inch digital instrument display with retro graphics inspired by the first-generation Volkswagen Golf. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a 13-inch multimedia touchscreen, while a rotary dial for volume and track selection is mounted on the tunnel — another nod to the brand’s classic models.

Recycled fabrics are used throughout the interior, including the door panels and center console. Even the pedals feature distinctive “play” and “pause” symbols, emphasizing the electric nature of the model.

More space than a regular Polo

The new ID. Polo is built on the updated MEB+ platform and is close in size to the ID.2all concept. Its length is 4,053 mm, width 1,816 mm, height 1,530 mm, and the wheelbase measures 2,600 mm. Compared to the current petrol-powered Polo, the car is noticeably more spacious, especially in the luggage compartment: capacity has increased to 435 liters and reaches 1,243 liters with the seats folded. This makes the EV more practical not only for city driving but also for weekend trips.

Range of up to 450 km and a GTI version

The Volkswagen ID. Polo will be offered with two battery options: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate unit and a larger 52 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery. Maximum driving range reaches up to 450 km under the WLTP cycle. All versions will be front-wheel drive and equipped with a single electric motor producing 116, 135, or 211 hp.

A sporty Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI with an output of 226 hp will be added to the lineup later, becoming the most performance-oriented version aimed at fans of dynamic hatchbacks.

When to expect it and how much it will cost

Production of the ID. Polo will be set up at Volkswagen’s plant in Martorell, Spain. Sales are scheduled to begin in spring 2026. It is already known that the starting price on the European market will not exceed €25,000, making the newcomer one of the most affordable electric cars in its class.

The Volkswagen ID. Polo promises to be more than just another electric vehicle — it aims to combine modern technology, the brand’s recognizable style, and practicality, potentially becoming a new people’s car for Europe.
