Toyota has unveiled the 2027 Corolla Cross for the US market. The crossover has received a revised trim-level lineup, an updated multimedia system and an expanded range of safety technologies, while sales of both petrol and hybrid versions will begin in the autumn.
Toyota reduces the number of Corolla Cross trim levels
The main change to the 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross affects the hybrid version. The S trim has been removed from the lineup, meaning the hybrid crossover will now be available only in SE and XSE versions. The petrol-powered Corolla Cross retains its existing structure: L, LE and XLE.
Visually, the petrol and hybrid versions differ in the design of the front end. The hybrid uses a plastic panel instead of a traditional radiator grille. At the same time, the transition to the 2027 model year has not brought any major technical changes. Toyota has retained the same powertrains and key specifications.
Petrol and hybrid versions: specifications
The 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross with a petrol engine is equipped with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 169 hp. It is paired with a continuously variable transmission. Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The Dynamic Torque Control AWD system can send up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheels. When all-wheel drive is no longer needed, the system completely disconnects torque delivery to the rear axle, helping to reduce energy losses.
The hybrid Corolla Cross retains its 196 hp powertrain and electronic e-AWD system. In the hybrid version, the rear wheels are driven by a separate electric motor. It can engage when the vehicle starts moving and can also activate automatically if the front wheels begin to slip. This setup helps improve traction and reduce understeer.
New multimedia system and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0
The 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross for the US market has received an updated range of digital equipment. Even the base version comes with:
- an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system;
- a 6-speaker audio system;
- wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Higher trim levels are equipped with a 10.5-inch display and a 9-speaker JBL audio system. The analogue instrument cluster has also been replaced by a digital one. All versions of the crossover come as standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of active safety systems. It includes:
- a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection;
- adaptive cruise control;
- lane-keeping assistance;
- road sign recognition;
- automatic high beams.
The extended safety package also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a safe-exit warning system for opening the vehicle doors.
2027 Toyota Corolla Cross price
Sales of the updated 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross in the United States will begin in the autumn. Buyers will be offered both petrol and hybrid versions. Prices for the petrol crossover start at $25,535, while the hybrid version starts at $31,415. This means the difference between the entry-level petrol and hybrid versions is $5,880.
For the new model year, Toyota decided against a major overhaul of the Corolla Cross. The main changes concern the trim-level structure and digital equipment, while the 169 hp and 196 hp powertrains remain unchanged. The hybrid version continues to offer e-AWD and higher power output, making it the most technologically advanced version of the model.
