The Cyprus Department of Road Transport has announced changes within the current electric vehicle subsidy programs. The announcement concerns preliminary approvals issued to applicants who received the relevant email notification on December 11. The deadline for uploading or submitting a confirmed vehicle order has expired, and in cases where the application was not completed, the preliminary approval has been automatically annulled.

This applies to both new and used vehicles, depending on the terms of the specific category. The department emphasized that meeting deadlines is a mandatory condition for participation in the state support program for e-mobility.

New preliminary approvals for the reserve list

As places have been freed up, the Department of Road Transport will send new preliminary approvals to participants on the reserve list within the next week. This concerns subsidy categories D5, D7, D8, D9, and D10. Recipients of the notifications will be able, within the specified timeframe, to submit documents and confirm the vehicle order—whether for a new or a used electric car.

For each category, specific application number ranges have been defined based on the results of the lottery. After receiving the notification, participants must review the requirements and the list of documents that must be submitted to the department within the stated deadlines.

What applicants need to know

The authorities remind applicants that if deadlines are not met or the document package is incomplete, the preliminary approval will be annulled and the right to participate will pass to the next applicant in the queue. In this way, the system remains dynamic and allows public funds to be allocated as efficiently as possible.

It is separately emphasized that all documents must be sent exclusively to the official email address of the Department of Road Transport in the approval letter. This condition is mandatory to retain the right to receive the subsidy.

Electrification in Cyprus: the current situation

The electric vehicle support program remains one of the key elements of Cyprus’s environmental strategy. In recent years, interest in electric vehicles has been steadily growing, supported both by government subsidies and by the expansion of the charging station network across the country. According to relevant authorities, the number of electric vehicles on Cyprus’s roads increases every year, and demand for participation in state support programs continues to exceed available funding.

It is expected that in the coming months the authorities will announce additional measures to encourage the transition to eco-friendly transport, including a possible expansion of recipient categories and adjustments to funding terms.

Thus, program participants are advised to follow official notifications and meet all requirements on time so as not to lose the opportunity to receive state support for the purchase of an electric vehicle.
