Until September 24 inclusive, safety barriers will be replaced on the Limassol–Nicosia and Limassol–Paphos motorways. The works will affect the section from the Skarinou exit to the Petra tou Romiou exit and will be carried out in both directions.
The Public Works Department reports that the works will take place from 20:00 to 05:30, but only from Monday to Thursday — Fridays and weekends are not included in the schedule.
How traffic on the motorway will change
The motorways are not expected to be fully closed during the works. The fast lane will be closed in sections of approximately 200 m, after which traffic will be redirected to the adjacent lane. The work zone will gradually move along the motorway. Drivers should therefore take into account possible temporary lane narrowing and reduced traffic speeds. The Public Works Department urges motorists to follow temporary road signs and police instructions and to exercise particular caution in the work areas.
During the same period, separate daytime works are planned on the Limassol–Paphos motorway (A6) in the Petra tou Romiou area. From September 14 to 18, between 08:00 and 16:00, road surface repairs will be carried out there in the direction of Paphos. During the works, traffic travelling from Limassol to Paphos will be diverted to the opposite side of the motorway, where two-way traffic will be arranged along a section of approximately 3 km. Vehicles will then return to their normal side of the motorway via a specially arranged crossover.
In addition, from September 14 to 23, between 07:30 and 15:00, pruning of acacia trees and other vegetation will be carried out on certain sections of the Limassol–Paphos motorway. The hard shoulder will be closed in sections of approximately 200 m, while traffic will continue to flow in two lanes.
What drivers need to know
Those planning trips between Limassol, Nicosia and Paphos in the coming days should take into account several types of roadworks. The Public Works Department recommends that drivers:
- reduce speed when approaching work zones;
- follow temporary road signs;
- maintain a safe distance;
- avoid sudden lane changes;
- follow police instructions.
Important: the night-time safety barrier replacement works do not mean that the motorways will be fully closed. Traffic will continue to flow, although individual sections of the fast lane will be temporarily closed.
