Opel has officially confirmed the release of a new “charged” version of the compact hatchback — Opel Corsa GSE. The model’s premiere is scheduled for the end of 2026, and it will become the direct successor to the iconic gasoline sport versions Opel Corsa OPC and Vauxhall Corsa VXR, which for a long time were considered symbols of affordable hot hatchbacks.
CEO Florian Huettl emphasized that the model combines the traditional practicality of the Corsa with the new GSE philosophy, which is now associated exclusively with high-performance electric vehicles. According to him, the new model is expected to deliver vivid driving dynamics while ensuring fully locally emission-free driving.
Expected specifications and the Stellantis platform
Exact technical data have not yet been disclosed; however, automotive industry insiders agree that the Corsa GSE will receive an electric motor with an output of around 278 horsepower. A similar unit is already used in the group’s performance models, including Abarth 600e, Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, Peugeot E-208 GTI and Lancia Ypsilon.
The electric car is expected to feature an upgraded braking system, a sport-tuned suspension, and a Torsen limited-slip differential, which will significantly improve handling and stability at high speeds. According to preliminary data, a 54 kWh battery will provide a driving range of approximately 320 km to 370 km under modern testing cycles.
Design and sporty character
The appearance of the new model will noticeably differ from the standard versions. It is already known that the car will receive unique 18-inch wheels, bright brake calipers, widened wheel arches, and aggressive bumpers. The design will incorporate elements inspired by the Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept, highlighting the hatchback’s sporty and futuristic character.
Why the Corsa GSE matters for the market
The launch of this model reflects the global trend of transitioning sports cars to electric power. The new Corsa GSE is expected to become one of the most affordable “hot” electric models in Europe, while retaining the traditional compactness, agility, and practicality that have made the Corsa a true bestseller for decades.
As a result, the Corsa GSE promises to become not just a new version of a popular hatchback, but a symbol of a new era — when driving pleasure is combined with environmental friendliness and modern technology.
