Nissan Qashqai e-POWER Sets a Guinness World Record

The Nissan Qashqai e-POWER set a record by covering 1,980 km on a single tank of fuel. The test served as a practical demonstration of the e-POWER system’s capabilities in real-world conditions and confirmed its potential in terms of fuel efficiency and driving range.

The record was set in Colombia. From July 14 to 17, the vehicle completed a route from Bogotá to the Caribbean coast, traveling on roads with different surfaces, elevation changes and varying traffic conditions. The journey was completed without refueling or external charging, while each stage was monitored and certified by official Guinness World Records adjudicators.

How e-POWER Works

Unlike traditional hybrids, Nissan’s e-POWER system drives the wheels exclusively through an electric motor. The petrol engine is not directly connected to the wheels — instead, it operates as a generator and produces electricity when needed. As a result, the vehicle retains the smooth acceleration and quick throttle response typical of an electric car, while eliminating the need for the driver to look for a charging station.

The latest version of the system features a modular 5-in-1 architecture that combines the electric motor, generator, inverter and other key components into a compact unit. Regenerative braking also helps recover energy and improve overall system efficiency.

Not Nissan’s First Long-Distance Run

The latest result continues a series of long-distance trials of Nissan’s e-POWER technology. The company previously carried out similar journeys in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Nissan positions e-POWER as one of the key elements of its electrification strategy. The technology is designed to combine the advantages of electric drive — smoothness and responsive performance — with the familiar refueling process of a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle.

The 1,980 km record is the result of a specific official test and does not mean that every owner will be guaranteed the same driving range on a single tank in normal use. Actual fuel consumption and range depend on the route, speed, weather, vehicle load and driving style.
