In 2025, a total of 2,429 subsidies were granted in Cyprus under the electric mobility promotion program, amounting to €21.5 million. Thanks to this support, 1,820 new electric vehicles appeared on the country’s roads. In addition, the program encouraged the scrapping of 609 old vehicles, which were removed from circulation.

According to a report by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Public Works, the total amount allocated for scrapping old vehicles under the electrification program reached €4,159,500. Another €17,316,500 was spent last year on the purchase of new electric vehicles, including taxis, vehicles for people with disabilities, commercial electric transport, quadricycles, and electric bicycles.

Investments in green infrastructure

Total investment in green mobility reached €21.5 million. Of this amount, €2.6 million was allocated to the construction of cycling lanes in Nicosia and Paphos. Another €7.4 million was spent on energy upgrades of buildings belonging to the Public Works Department.

A project to improve accessibility for cyclists, pedestrians, and people with disabilities in the Nicosia area was completed in November 2025 at a cost of €1.9 million plus VAT. A similar project in the Paphos area was completed in October 2025 and cost €619,321 plus VAT. The energy upgrade of central and district offices of the Public Works Department in Nicosia, completed in November 2025, cost €7.42 million plus VAT.

Third and fourth rounds of the electrification program

In 2025, the third and fourth rounds of subsidy applications were held as part of Cyprus’s electric mobility promotion program. Funding was allocated for the purchase of zero- or low-emission vehicles, as well as for alternative modes of transport.

Scrapping old vehicles: figures and categories

For the purchase of new commercial electric vehicles in category N1 (up to 3.5 tonnes), the subsidy amounted to €15,000. A total of €945,000 was allocated for 63 approved applications.

Thanks to generous subsidies, Cyprus demonstrates one of the highest rates of electric vehicle adoption in the European Union. It is important to note that the program has been running for several years: more than 2,000 subsidies were issued in 2024 alone. The cumulative effect of state support is already visible on the roads, with more and more electric vehicles appearing in cities and on highways across the island.
