In February 2026, the number of vehicle registrations in Cyprus increased significantly. According to the Statistical Service, the total reached 4,670, which is 24.3% more than in February 2025, when 3,757 vehicles were registered.
Particularly noticeable growth is observed in the passenger car segment. In February 2026, the registration of passenger cars of the “sedan” type increased by 23.8%, reaching 3,600 vehicles compared to 2,908 in the same month last year. Experts link this dynamic to the revival of the market, increased demand for personal transport, and the gradual stabilization of the economic situation.
Overall dynamics of the car market in Cyprus
If we consider the first two months of 2026, the automotive market also shows steady growth. From January to February, 9,020 vehicles were registered, whereas in the same period of 2025 the figure was 7,834. Thus, the growth amounted to 15.1%. In the passenger car category, 6,917 vehicles were registered in the first two months of 2026, which is 13.7% more than in the same period last year, when there were 6,084.
Interestingly, the market is still dominated by used cars. Of the total number of registered passenger vehicles, 2,401 cars or 34.7% were new, while 4,516 cars or 65.3% were used. At the same time, the registration of cars used in the rental sector decreased slightly — from 555 to 502 vehicles.

What types of cars residents of Cyprus choose
Statistics also show changes in the structure of the car market by engine type. In the first two months of 2026, the share of gasoline cars decreased to 36.2%, whereas in the same period of 2025 it was 41.6%.
The share of diesel cars also decreased slightly — from 9.2% to 8.9%. A slight decline is also observed among fully electric vehicles: their share was 5.2%, while a year earlier it was 5.3%.
At the same time, hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. Their share grew from 43.9% to 49.6%, making hybrids the most in-demand type of powertrain among new registrations. This trend reflects the general European trend toward a gradual transition to more environmentally friendly types of transport.
Growth in registrations of freight transport and buses
Activity is also noticeable in other transport categories. In January and February 2026, 44 buses were registered, whereas in the same period of 2025 there were 20. The number of vehicles for transporting goods also increased. In the first two months of 2026, 1,155 such vehicles were registered, which is significantly more compared to 915 in the same period last year. The increase amounted to 26.2%.
The most noticeable increase occurred in the rental freight vehicle segment — their registrations grew by 88%, reaching 47 units. The number of heavy trucks increased by 67.4%, reaching 149, the number of road tractors grew by 42.9% to 40, and the registration of light trucks increased by 18.9%, reaching 919 vehicles.
What is happening in the motorcycle market
Changes also affected two-wheeled transport. The registration of mopeds with an engine capacity of up to 50 cm3 decreased significantly. In January–February 2026, only 15 such vehicles were registered, whereas in the same period of 2025 there were 49.
At the same time, the market for higher-powered motorcycles continues to grow. The registration of motorcycles with an engine capacity of over 50 cm3 increased by 14.7% and reached 758 units, whereas in the first two months of 2025, 661 motorcycles were registered.
Experts believe that the growth in vehicle registrations in Cyprus is linked to increased economic activity, the development of the tourism sector, and the expansion of the market for cars with alternative types of engines. In the coming years, the market may continue to grow, especially in the segment of hybrid and electric vehicles.
