The world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles and hybrids, BYD, started 2026 with impressive results in the Cyprus automotive market. In January, the company took first place in the number of registrations of fully electric vehicles, significantly strengthening its position in the eco-friendly transport segment.
The brand’s share in the fully electric vehicle category reached about 37%. In January alone, 82 new electric cars of this brand were registered on the island. This result reflects the growing interest of Cyprus residents in electric transport and buyers’ trust in the manufacturer’s technology.
Growing popularity of electric vehicles in Cyprus
Interest in electric vehicles in Cyprus continues to grow rapidly. This is due not only to the environmental initiatives of the European Union, but also to support programs, reduced operating costs, and the development of charging infrastructure on the island.
Against this background, BYD is actively expanding its presence in both fully electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). This strategy allows the company to offer customers a wider choice and facilitate the transition to environmentally friendly transport.
BYD models that became the most popular
One of the most in-demand models was the BYD ATTO 3 crossover, priced in Cyprus from approximately 33,990 euros. This compact electric SUV ranked first among electric vehicles in terms of registrations. In January, 44 such cars were registered, giving the model about 20% of the market.
Another model attracting strong buyer interest is the BYD Dolphin city electric car, known in some countries as Dolphin Surf. The vehicle received the prestigious international award “World Urban Car of the Year” and combines a relatively affordable price, modern technology, and a high level of safety. The model received the maximum five stars in crash tests by the independent organization Euro NCAP.
Among the more premium models, the BYD Seal sports sedan stands out. This electric car is positioned as a competitor to well-known sport sedan models and attracts buyers with its performance, technology, and modern design.
Another notable model is the BYD Sealion 7 electric SUV. This powerful SUV can accelerate to 100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds and is aimed at drivers who want to combine environmental friendliness with a sporty driving style.
Development of DM-i hybrid technologies
The company is also actively developing its line of plug-in hybrids with the proprietary DM-i technology. One of the key models is the BYD Seal U DM-i hybrid crossover. Thanks to the Dual Mode-intelligence system, the car prioritizes electric driving mode, which significantly reduces fuel consumption. The total combined range of such a model can reach approximately 1,125 kilometers.
The new BYD Sealion 5 DM-i hybrid SUV has also recently debuted on the Cyprus market, expanding the brand’s available model range. In the coming months, another new model is expected — the BYD Atto 2 DM-i. The official presentation of this model in Cyprus is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
The expansion of the hybrid vehicle lineup is considered an important step for the island’s market, as such cars allow a gradual transition to electric mobility without full dependence on charging infrastructure.
New service center and extended warranty
Alongside sales growth, the company is strengthening its service infrastructure. A modern service center will soon open in Nicosia, equipped according to the manufacturer’s standards. Specially trained technical specialists and consultants will work there.
The company has also extended the warranty on its innovative BYD Blade Battery. The maximum mileage under warranty has now been increased to 250,000 km while maintaining an eight-year service period. The minimum guaranteed battery health level remains at 70%.
The new warranty applies not only to future vehicles but also to already sold electric and hybrid cars of the brand in Cyprus. This decision is expected to further strengthen customer confidence in the company’s technology and accelerate the country’s transition to more environmentally friendly transport.
