The legendary BMW 3 Series lineup has received a long-awaited update — the company has unveiled the fully electric BMW i3 sedan. The new model combines the recognizable style of the classic “three series” with advanced technologies that make it one of the most anticipated electric vehicles of 2026.
The BMW i3 50 xDrive model became the second in the new generation of Neue Klasse vehicles. This architecture was created from scratch for electric cars and, according to experts, will become the foundation of the company’s strategy in the coming years, especially against the backdrop of the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market in Europe.
Power, dynamics, and new driving sensations
The new sedan is equipped with a dual-motor electric system that produces 469 hp and up to 645 Nm of torque. This level ensures not only rapid acceleration but also stable dynamics at any speed.
A key role is played by the sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which works in tandem with the BMW Panoramic iDrive system. It is complemented by the Heart of Joy function, aimed at improving vehicle response and creating a more “lively” driving feel. As a result, the manufacturer emphasizes not only environmental friendliness but also the signature driving experience for which BMW cars are valued.
Future design with a recognizable character
The new BMW i3 presents a fresh take on the brand’s design while retaining the classic proportions of a sports sedan. The front end features original LED optics visually integrated with the grille, creating a unified futuristic look.
The rear stands out with horizontal lights, while hidden door handles and widened wheel arches enhance the sense of technology and dynamics. Overall, the car looks more modern and aerodynamic, which also positively affects efficiency and driving range.
The interior of the new BMW i3 has become more spacious and technological. The main focus is on the driver: a four-spoke steering wheel with improved ergonomics is installed, and a panoramic Panoramic iDrive display is placed under the windshield. A large 17.9-inch touchscreen of the multimedia system takes center stage. The interface has become more intuitive and supports integration with modern digital services.
Up to 900 km without recharging and ultra-fast charging
One of the main advantages of the new BMW i3 is its impressive driving range. According to the WLTP cycle, it reaches 900 km, placing the model among the leaders among electric sedans. The use of an 800-volt architecture allows support for fast charging with power up to 400 kW. This means that in just 10 minutes you can gain enough energy for approximately 400 km of travel. Such figures make the electric vehicle convenient not only for the city but also for long-distance travel across Europe.
The BMW i3 is equipped with the modern Symbiotic Drive system of electronic assistants, which corresponds to autonomy level 2+. The vehicle can stay in its lane, adapt speed in traffic, recognize road signs, and automatically respond to road situations. These technologies increase safety and reduce driver workload, especially in urban conditions and on long highways.
Production, launch, and prospects
The production of the new BMW i3 will be organized at the BMW Group plant in Munich. Assembly is scheduled to begin in August 2026, and sales will start in the fall. Prices have not yet been announced, but analysts expect the model to take a strong position in the premium segment and become a serious competitor to other electric sedans.
Against the backdrop of tightening environmental requirements in the EU and growing interest in electric vehicles, the new BMW i3 has every chance to become one of the key models in its class. It combines a long driving range, powerful performance, and modern technologies that make everyday use comfortable.
