The German automaker BMW has once again confirmed its status as one of the most authoritative brands in the global automotive industry. The BMW M5 Touring model was awarded the prestigious “Golden Steering Wheel” in the “Premium and Luxury” category, which is presented annually by Auto Bild magazine and the newspaper Bild am Sonntag. This victory became one of the brightest highlights of the automotive season and underscored the brand’s confident leadership in the segment of high-tech and high-performance vehicles.
The “Golden Steering Wheel” award is considered one of the most significant honors in Europe and has been presented since 1976. The 49th ceremony featured 72 new models introduced to the market in 2025, with winners determined based on expert tests and reader opinions.
Success across multiple categories
In addition to the main award, BMW achieved impressive results in the reader voting of the German automotive publication Auto Zeitung. According to the survey, which involved nearly 10,000 participants, BMW vehicles won in eight categories. These included both compact models and business- and premium-class representatives — from the BMW 1 Series to the BMW 5 Series — as well as electric and crossover versions, including the BMW iX1 and BMW X5.
Particular attention was drawn to the new electric BMW iX3, which received high marks for technology, comfort, and efficiency alongside models with traditional internal combustion engines. This confirms the brand’s strategy focused on balanced development of electric vehicles and conventional powertrains.
An absolute record and recognition as brand of the year
As a result of the voting, BMW was named “Best Brand in the World,” which became a logical continuation of its success on the European market. No automaker had previously achieved such a number of awards within the Auto Trophy competition in a single year. In total, the brand’s models received nine awards, setting an absolute record in the history of the competition.
Experts note that BMW’s success is linked not only to design and dynamics, but also to the active implementation of digital solutions, driver assistance systems, and sustainable technologies, which are increasingly valued by buyers in Europe.
Why these awards matter
The Auto Trophy awards, presented since 1987, are considered among the most authoritative in Germany’s automotive industry. In 2025, around 400 models across 18 categories participated in the voting, making the victory particularly significant. The involvement of thousands of readers and car enthusiasts allows the results to be seen as a reflection of real market preferences.
For BMW, this is not just another accolade, but confirmation of the correctness of its strategic course aimed at combining innovation, sustainability, and driving pleasure. Experts predict that in 2026 the brand will continue to strengthen its position, especially in the electric vehicle segment and among premium station wagons.
