Renault Niagara: The Pickup Set to Transform the Brand’s International Lineup

Renault has unveiled the new Niagara, a pickup that combines off-road capability, the practicality of a utility vehicle and the comfort of a C-segment crossover. The model will become the first vehicle in Renault’s new international product programme and will be produced in Argentina.

Renault Niagara and the development plan through 2030

Niagara is the first new vehicle presented under the futuREady strategy, which provides for the launch of 14 new models outside Europe by 2030. Latin America is one of Renault’s key regions. The new pickup is initially aimed at the markets of Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, with plans to offer it later in other countries across the region. Sales of the Niagara are expected to begin in Latin America before the end of 2026.

Renault expects to significantly increase its presence in international markets. By 2030, the brand intends to generate 50% of its sales outside Europe and raise the share of electrified vehicles in these markets to 50%. Renault’s overall target is to sell more than 2 million vehicles per year, with half of them coming from markets outside Europe.

Dimensions, engine and pickup capabilities

Renault Niagara is built on the RGMP platform, adapted for pickups and the needs of the Latin American market. The vehicle features a rugged body with pronounced off-road styling, while the cabin and equipment are designed to provide the comfort of an everyday vehicle. The pickup is 4.91 m long and 1.72 m high. It was designed for a wide range of uses, from daily commuting and family trips to work, cargo transport and driving on unpaved roads.

At launch, the model is equipped with a 1.3-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine. When running on petrol, it develops 156 hp and 270 Nm, while using a petrol-ethanol blend increases output to 160 hp. Depending on the version, the vehicle is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Renault has already announced plans to expand the powertrain range: the Niagara is available with either a manual or automatic transmission, while the RGMP platform will also support a hybrid powertrain in the future. This is in line with the company’s plan to increase the share of electrified models in international markets.

The chassis has been tuned to improve stability and reduce vibrations. The pickup is designed not only for carrying cargo, but also for towing and tackling difficult terrain away from paved roads. In some versions, the transmission will be able to automatically adapt torque distribution to available traction.

A crossover-style interior with modern technology

Despite the pickup’s utilitarian format, Renault has placed strong emphasis on comfort and digital equipment. The cabin includes practical storage spaces, the OpenR Link multimedia system with integrated Google services and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a digital instrument cluster. The latest version of OpenR Link also includes Google Gemini integration, while the equipment list features the Multi-Sense system and customisable ambient lighting.

Driver assistance systems include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assistance. Renault is therefore positioning the Niagara not only as a work-focused pickup, but also as a vehicle for everyday driving, family use and leisure. This approach reflects changing demand in the Latin American market, where pickups are increasingly used not only for work but also for personal purposes.

Where Renault Niagara will be produced

The Niagara was designed specifically with the characteristics of Latin America in mind, with the involvement of regional design and engineering teams. Production will take place at the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba, Argentina. The facility has been operating since 1955 and is one of Renault’s key production centres in the region. Before the start of series production, test vehicles covered almost 800,000 km in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia. Testing was carried out on both regular roads and off-road terrain, in different climate conditions and under various usage scenarios.

Renault sees the Niagara as one of the key vehicles in its new international lineup. Together with the already introduced Kardian and Boreal, it is expected to help the brand expand its offering outside Europe and lay the foundation for further new model launches through 2030.
