The most anticipated automotive innovations of 2024
Every year, the global automotive industry offers its customers new car models. At the same time, it promotes bold solutions and the latest technologies. No crisis or shortage can completely stop this process. In the near future, we will see a lot of interesting novelties whose release is eagerly awaited by drivers in different parts of the world. The new year 2024 promises to be rich in premieres of cars of various classes and price categories. We have selected the most anticipated cars for you.
Here are our TOP 7:
Lexus GX 550
After a long 14 years, the large Lexus GX SUV has finally undergone a complete generation change. The third generation model has a radically different design, which makes the car look quite aggressive from the outside. At the suggestion of Japanese designers, the premium SUV has changed the angle of the front pillar and increased the so-called "prestige distance" (from the front axle to the base of the windscreen).
From the front, the car draws attention to itself with a relatively small, frameless grille flanked by 'fanged' headlights. The car is said to have a brutal-looking bonnet that is almost parallel to the ground. The SUV also has chubby wheel arches and massive 'squares' of side mirror housings.
Around the body of the new Lexus GC 550 there are black overlays that have a protective function. The rear is characterised by a massive boot lid and a narrow strip of tail lights. In general, all these changes have made it possible to make the image of the SUV more masculine, and the all-road version Overtail looks particularly brutal. With the change of generation, the interior has become more spacious and even more practical. There are new niches for small items and the number of cup holders has been increased to twelve. Among the options, it is worth mentioning the more comfortable front seats with massage and heating for the second row.
Volkswagen Tiguan 3
In mid-September, the third generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover was unveiled for the European market. According to the release, the model's body has become more streamlined, and the grille is now entirely placed on the bumper and has three horizontal chrome strips. The R-Line cars, however, had a blackened diamond pattern. This made them look a little more aggressive than usual. The new model's headlights are connected by a connector with a bright LED strip.
Compared to its predecessor, the interior of the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2024 has undergone significant changes and has been given a design in the style of the electric models of the ID family. The front of the car features a 10.25-inch virtual dashboard without a visor, with a touchscreen multimedia system in the centre. Beneath the entertainment system's 'tablet' is a block of touch buttons for climate control. The Germans have done away with the gear selector on the central tunnel - the transmission is now controlled by the right-hand paddle.
The Tiguan has become a little more spacious with the generation change: the headliners of the front and rear seats have been raised by 9 and 10 mm respectively. To make travelling even more comfortable, multicontour front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions are available as an option. As for the technology, in the new generation the main bet is made on the Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid, which will be available in two variants of forcing - at 204 and 272 hp, while now such a car can be ordered exclusively with a 245 hp installation.
Cadillac Lyriq
The Cadillac Lyriq is the American brand's first electric car. From the outside, the electric SUV has a stylish plug instead of a radiator grille, as well as narrow headlight and light strips. At the same time, the car still has a firm, streamlined body with "recessed" door handles, although the developers have done away with the side cameras in favour of traditional mirrors. Depending on the equipment, the car can have wheels with a diameter of 20 to 22 inches.
In the interior of the Lyriq there are more physical buttons and handles, but the main feature of the American model has been retained. It is a single 33.0 inch display on the front panel, which acts as a dashboard and entertainment system. The screen is slightly curved and has the widest colour gamut (1 billion colours).
Most of the functions can be controlled via the touchscreen, although Cadillac has retained a separate button for the climate control. Interestingly, for the first time, the control panels for the electric front seats have been placed on the doors (as in Mercedes-Benz). The more expensive versions of the crossover feature wood veneer and metal trim. The AKG music system with nine speakers and active noise cancellation should also please passengers. The car is powered by a new-generation Ultium lithium-ion traction battery developed in conjunction with LG Chem. The battery has a capacity of 100 kWh and a relatively low content of expensive cobalt.
Volvo EX90
The EX90 crossover is an electric "relative" of the XC90, which the Swedes are not giving up yet (it will be sold in parallel until at least 2025). On the outside, the car is immediately recognisable as a purebred Volvo, although the designers have tried to make it more aerodynamic. The car got a flat bonnet, a plug instead of a grille, a completely flat underbody and recessed door handles. As a result, the new Volvo EX90 has a drag coefficient of 0.29.
The battery-powered all-rounder has matrix headlights in the characteristic "Thor's hammer" design and is mounted on 21-inch wheels. As for the three-row cabin, it has a minimalist design. The seats are upholstered in expensive fabric with a touch of wool and the Swedes have used inserts in Nordico material for decoration.
The front of the Swedish crossover has a compact digital dashboard that displays driver information as well as data on the work of the autopilot. A 14.5-inch vertical tablet is dedicated to the needs of the multimedia system. The system is based on the Android Automotive OS operating system. There are almost no analogue buttons in the cabin of the Volvo EX90 - even the spokes of the steering wheel are equipped with sensors, and the transmission is controlled from the right paddle. The Volvo EX90 electric crossover has four-wheel drive with two electric motors. In the basic Twin Motor version, the front unit produces 163 hp and the rear unit 245 hp. Their total output is 408 "horses" (770 Nm).
Mercedes-Benz E-Class W214
The sixth generation of the "S-class" will only be available in saloon and estate versions, including an all-terrain version, but there will no longer be a coupé or cabriolet. From the outside, the car has changed significantly, with a completely new front and rear design. In profile, the Mercedes E-Class W214 now resembles the flagship S-Class W223, but in a slightly reduced size. The interior, however, has been radically redesigned.
There are two versions of this model. The 'Classic' version has a more traditional grille pattern with three horizontal ribs and a branded star on the bonnet. The "Progressive" version features a grille with a large emblem and a single rib in the middle, decorated with dozens of small stars. The car's headlamps feature an unusual shape with small curves in the lower part.
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W214 welcomes a new front panel whose design is in the style of the EQE and EQS electric models. There is an electronic instrument panel in the form of a freestanding 12.3″ screen without a visor, and the entire centre console is taken up by a huge 14.4″ multimedia system display. The interior of the Mercedes E-Class 2024 is more spacious than its predecessor. The overall chassis of the saloon remains the same, with double wishbones at the front and five wishbones at the rear.
BMW 5-Series (G60)
The BMW 5 Series in the new G60 body is the eighth generation of the model. From the outside, the electric version is virtually indistinguishable from the usual one. Later in the family, a station wagon will appear, and after some time, the "charged" M5 of the new generation is expected. In contrast to the two previous generations, F10 and G30, the design of the new BMW 5 Series (G60) has changed more significantly. Not only have the front and rear been completely redesigned, but the profile of the car has also changed. There is less relief on the side walls, door handles are recessed in a body, wheel discs of new design in the base go to 18″ (standard wheels are up to 21″).
Hofmeister's signature curve is played out here in the form of overlays in the rear pillars, with the number "5" painted into them. At the front, the car receives completely new headlights with a different pattern, as well as the original design of the bumper. M Sport and M Sport Pro packages with more aggressive plumage were available as options. Particularly worthy of note is the rear of the saloon, with its horizontal, elongated lights, the design of which still causes mixed feelings. Such a decision at least looks unusual and will certainly become one of the most discussed elements of the new "five" among fans of the brand.
The interior of the new car has been made with an eye on the flagship 7-series saloon G70, which makes it look noticeably more austere and expensive than before. A full synthetic finish is standard and Merino leather upholstery is an extra cost. There are two huge colour screens in front of the driver - the left 12.3-inch screen displays instruments, while the right 14.9-inch screen is dedicated to multimedia, running BMW OS 8.5. Other options include four-zone climate control, a heated rear sofa, tablet holders on the rear of the front backrests, and an 840mm-long "Sky Lounge" glass panel that runs almost the length of the roof.
Lexus TX
The new Lexus TX large crossover has been designed specifically for the North American market. It is a completely new model that has not previously been in the manufacturer's range.
The model is built on the GA-K platform, which is also used by the NX and RX models. The exterior of the Lexus TX features LED lights, darkened rear pillars, 20-inch or 22-inch wheels and a unique front grille that sets it apart from all other Lexus models. Inside, the Lexus TX has three rows of seats, with the rear row suitable for adults as well as children. There can be a regular seat in the back as well as split seats.
The interior of the Lexus TX features a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and a classic 14-inch multimedia system display. Depending on the trim level (Standard, Premium, Luxury or F Sport Performance), head-up display, interior lighting, 21-speaker Mark&Levinson audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, three-zone climate control and more are available. Three powertrains are available for the Lexus TX to work in conjunction with the Direct4 four-wheel drive system.
